Project Architect / Lead

Are you interested in joining a small firm focused on award-winning infill projects in the DMV area? We are actively looking for a Project Architect with experience in multi-family architecture. As a firm, we have five core values: Design Excellence, Commitment, Brand, Citizen Architect, and Kaizen (Continuous Improvement). We look for team members who share these ideas. The office is located on H Street NE.

Roles

We expect the Project Architect to:
    • Generate design solutions, ranging from site plan concepts to construction details
    • Lead projects from Predesign through Construction Contract Administration
    • Interact directly with Clients, Consultants, and Contractors
    • Work with Principals to maintain design integrity and project budgets
    • Delegate tasks effectively to Designers and Project Administrators
Qualifications + Responsibilities

Applicants should have:

    • an interest in learning about the practice of architecture
    • a professional degree, either a Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture
    • a license to practice architecture or actively taking the ARE
    • Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

About Us: We are a boutique architectural firm based on H Street NE, working on a range of projects from affordable residential projects to commercial and institutional buildings. The common thread is our interest in improving urban life through creative and thoughtful infill projects. Our residential work includes missing middle projects that are include both affordable and market-rate housing, while our commercial portfolio encompasses offices, retail, restaurants, and religious projects.  We seek opportunities for net zero energy and passive house design strategies.  We are selective about the projects we take on and ensure that each opportunity receives ample attention.  Continuous improvement is a core tenet of the firm; we dedicate time each week to solving issues.  We have regular studio pin-ups to collectively improve our work.  We encourage our team to get involved in the community around them and strive for all our staff to become licensed architects.  Additionally, we volunteer our time for worthy causes including an annual Day of Service on MLK Day.

About You: You are a motivated emerging architect seeking a unique experience in a small firm. You possess at least 2 years of experience and are seeking a firm that will nurture your growth in the field.  In addition to hand sketching design solutions, you are able to harness Revit / Autodesk Construction Cloud, Sketchup, and the Adobe Creative Suite.  You possess a keen interest in continuously learning and improving. Your ability to devise solutions swiftly and effectively for diverse design problems sets you apart.  You are well-prepared and comprehend the significance of branding. Going the extra mile to ensure high-quality results is second nature to you. While meticulous about details, you remain unflustered by them. An astute observer and recorder, you pay close attention. On the path to licensure, you are seeking a firm that will support your goal.

About You: You are a motivated architecture student entering your fourth or fifth year (or graduate student) seeking hands-on experience in a small firm environment. You possess strong design sensibilities and are eager to contribute to real projects from concept through construction. You are proficient in Revit, Sketchup, and Adobe Creative Suite, with a willingness to learn our workflows and tools. You have a keen interest in sustainable design and urban infill projects. Your ability to sketch ideas quickly, think creatively about design challenges, and work collaboratively sets you apart. You are detail-oriented without being overwhelmed by complexity. You value the opportunity to work alongside principals and staff on meaningful projects that improve the built environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with design development and documentation across multiple project types
  • Create presentation materials, renderings, and diagrams
  • Support project teams with Revit modeling and drawing production
  • Participate in studio pin-ups and design reviews
  • Conduct research on sustainable design strategies and precedents
  • Visit project sites and attend client meetings when appropriate
  • Contribute to the firm’s culture of continuous improvement

Duration & Compensation: This is a paid internship position for Summer 2026 (approximately 10-12 weeks, May/June through August). Compensation is commensurate with experience and follows AIA guidelines for internship compensation.
