Parkside Residence

Colonial Village | Washington, DC

Located on a sloping lot in DC’s Colonial Village neighborhood at the edge of Rock Creek Park, this new custom home takes its design cues directly from its surroundings. The warm modern exterior palette — thermally modified wood siding, standing seam metal roofing, and bronze-framed windows — was selected to fit naturally among the wooded landscape rather than contrast with it. The single-story massing steps down with the grade, connecting the main living level to a walk-out lower level that opens to a rear patio and the natural landscape beyond.

Inside, the open plan living, dining, and kitchen sequence is oriented toward the tree canopy, with the primary suite, two offices, and a generous deck completing the main level. The lower level accommodates two additional bedrooms, a family room, gym, mudroom, and carport tucked under the deck above. Throughout, the material warmth of the interior follows from the exterior — connecting inside to out.

The project required Commission of Fine Arts approval and is being developed in collaboration with Clinton Ries Landscape Architects. Construction is currently underway.
