Northern Neck Overlook

Heathsville, Virginia

This unique contemporary home is situated on a picturesque bend along Balls Creek in the scenic Northern Neck of Virginia. It was thoughtfully designed to serve as a tranquil retreat for a couple about to retire.

This net-zero energy project seamlessly combines passive strategies for efficient heating, cooling, daylight utilization, and solar energy generation with state-of-the-art mechanical systems. The inclusion of triple-glazed windows and a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system ensures optimal performance. All of this is accomplished while affording breathtaking views of the expansive creek leading to the Chesapeake Bay.

In order to support the concept of “aging in place,” the design incorporates various elements to enhance accessibility and comfort for the residents. These include an elevator for easy movement between floors, a spacious bathroom with ample clearances, strategically placed grab bars, and a curbless shower for safety and convenience.
